Final event European project Breaching the Walls! We do need education
10 June 2021, 16:30 - 11 June 2021, 19:30
Fondazione Gramsci Emilia-Romagna is pleased to present the final event of the European Project Breaching the Walls. We do need education! an international project dedicated to the critical re-elaboration, through a plural involvement of institutions and citizens, of the history and memory of the fall of the Berlin Wall and of the events triggered by it.
The final event is scheduled for Thursday, June 10 and Friday, June 11, 2021, entirely online on ZOOM.
The project is promoted by the Gramsci Foundation Emilia-Romagna as leader together with 5 partners: the University of Bielefeld in Germany, the Institute of Contemporary History in Prague, the Municipality of Tirana, the association Past/Not Past in Paris and the Hisotry Meeting House in Warsaw. The aim of the project was to propose a reflection on the memory of the fall of the Berlin Wall – the project started in 2019 on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary – and on the impact that that event has exerted in the process of construction and sedimentation of the values of European citizenship in the aftermath of 1989.
In this context, several actions have been planned: international events of reflection on the different “European memories”, a collection of video interviews with witnesses of the time, the creation of intergenerational discussion groups, the holding of workshops dedicated to high school students.
The variety of these actions has been aimed partly at disseminating historical knowledge of the events of 1989 with scientific rigor, and partly at stimulating reflection on today’s Europe and on the meaning and value of being European citizens.
Many of the results achieved so far can be found on the project website www.breachingthewalls.eu.
The final conference will be inaugurated on the afternoon of Thursday, June 10 with a historical lecture by Kiran Klaus Patel (Ludwig Maximilians Universitat Munich), the discussion will continue throughout the day on Friday, June 11 with the contribution of several historians and a final reflection that will see the participation of all partners involved in the project.
All meetings will be held on ZOOM in webinar mode.
Simultaneous translation ENG/IT – IT/ENG will be provided.
